Documenting the UNFPA Executive Director at the 9th Pan-African Congress in Lomé

In December 2025, I accompanied Dr. Diene Keita, Executive Director of UNFPA and United Nations Under-Secretary-General, during a high-level official mission in Lomé, Togo.
The visit took place during the 9th Pan-African Congress, which brought together heads of state, government officials, ministers, decision-makers, intellectuals, members of the African diaspora and other leaders to exchange ideas on Africa’s future and its place in the world.
My role was to document the mission from within, capturing both the institutional importance of the event and the quieter human moments that unfold around high-level diplomacy and leadership.
Throughout the mission, I photographed Dr. Diene Keita during key moments of the congress and alongside senior political and institutional figures, including Togo’s President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.
Beyond the formal meetings and official ceremonies, I focused on gestures, conversations, expressions and moments of interaction — the details that often reveal the human dimension behind international institutions and public leadership.

This assignment continued my photographic documentation of Dr. Diene Keita’s work in West Africa, following an earlier mission in Côte d’Ivoire. Together, these projects form a growing visual record of her engagements as UNFPA Executive Director across the region.
