Capturing Côte d'Ivoire's Malaria Vaccine Launch
On July 15, 2024, Côte d'Ivoire 🇨🇮 has become the first country to introduce the R21 malaria vaccine.
Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, entrusted me with the mission of photographing and filming this event. Together with my team, we worked tirelessly to document the arrival of the vaccine, from the cold storage facilities to the first vaccinated baby.
I also followed Dr. Sania Nishtar, the CEO of Gavi, who was alongside healthcare workers, mothers, and babies. It was an honor and a great responsibility for me to be the privileged witness to this major advancement against a disease that kills hundreds of thousands of people each year worldwide, including 1,000 children in my country.
🦟 The mosquito is the deadliest animal for humans. Each year, over 600,000 deaths are due to malaria, 95% of which occur in Africa. In Côte d'Ivoire, approximately three children die every day from this disease.
I hope that my images will inspire others to vaccinate their children against this disease.
I therefore encourage parents to trust healthcare facilities. The vaccine has been used in several African countries, and it is both safe and effective.
